Dorothy Mara

Dorothy Mara has been working with clients at Hashim and Spinola for more than 20 years. She concentrates in the areas of estate planning, asset protection planning and elder law, as well as probate court matters for estates, guardianships and conservatorships.

Attorney Mara recognizes that the circumstances of each client and each family are unique and aims to create a plan which meets the particular needs of each client. Whether those needs be simple or complex, she works closely with clients to explore planning options and to select the most appropriate tools. This includes incapacity planning for just about everyone through durable powers of attorney and other documents, as well as will and trust planning for how assets are handled upon a client's death. These strategies may include the creation of shelter trusts to minimize taxes or irrevocable trusts to protect the family home. Also, they may include special needs trusts for a disabled family member to protect their benefits. On the probate side of her practice, Attorney Mara helps clients negotiate the court process and the process of collecting and distributing assets. Also, she assists families applying for a guardianship or conservatorship for a loved one.
